Daastaan-e-Guru Nanak: Na koi Hindu na koi Muslaman…

MELBOURNE, 10 March 2023: After performing ‘Daastaan-e-Guru Nanak’ at the Adelaide Fringe (17 Feb-19 March 2023), the ‘oneness’ of humankind message of Guru Nanak, once again mesmirised the audience at the Glen Waverley Community Centre here. In it’s purest form of ancient mystic story-telling, the storytellers (Daastaango)  created a well-knit soulful evening narrative with episodes of Guru Nanak’s times laced with contemporary issues.

The basic teachings of the master listened in apt attention by true believers created a 70-minutes mystic ambience.  The ancient Urdu art form ‘Daastaan’ emerged a true communicator with the tales of the Guru. Director Kuljeet Singh’s introduction in itself  set the tone for the evening of musical story-telling.

Through Daastaan-E-Guru Nanak, the attempt was to articulate the basic teachings of the master :Kirt Karna (honest & diligent living); Vand Chhakna (sharing what you possess); &
Naam Japna (meditating upon the name of the Almighty)…

New Delhi’s theatre company Atelier Repertory Company, formed in 2004 by Kuljeet Singh, is behind this story-telling style before us. Gaurav Suri as the Daastaango and singer Guneet Kaur captivated the select audience with Guru Nanak’s journey.

No doubt, it was inspiring with the musical tones. The message of ‘oneness’ went through well amid the chaos of the 21st century.
